Why on earth should anyone respect culture, religion or tradition?
Why on earth should anyone respect culture, religion or tradition? Wheres the logical rationality in following rules or codes of conduct etc simply as its always been done or somone or some book says so? As opposed to anaylsing whether its a fair, just good and benefitcal to society thing or not? For example... Bonzai trees, pagodas, Tai chi, noodle soup all are harmless and make life fun and pretty. Arabian food is nice and yummy, the ismalic ban on alcohol makes sense given all the trouble you get or at least very restricted... These are understandable. Likewise tradional dances and some not all dress. But things like a veil that hides a face and personality and identity and person, foot binding that cripples children, forced marriage and family honour akin to human trafficing sex slavoury. Wheres the good in that? Why not look as see gays... tradionally and relgiously deemed bad likewise witches. But have they are a whole done anything done anything nasty to anyone unproked? Not that Im aware of... Often I see gays being great at comedy, the creative arts, cooking, haircuts etc. Witches associating with new age shops of chill out music, josticks and positve attiudes to woemn , peace, love, sex and respect and harmony with nature. I undersatnd in the desert many years ago pork would have been dangerous in steams of going off. But now we have freezers, hygenic cooking and food safety. its not as though pigs are usually pets. I may not like classical music but it ain't hurting anyone or being used to control anyone. Curries are good but I seriously doubt the origonator of sikhisim would want children and wifes crying that their dad is dead as his turban was a lousey crash helmet in an accident. Im pretty sure he would have been up for a compromise of combining a turban and safety helmet that did not act as a crown of status. So why persist to forcing the following of bad rules Simply as tradition, culture or relgion? Especially horrendously hurtful, abusive, unfair, unjust, cruel, pointless and down right stupid actions? Why not commun sense to work out which to keep, which to ditch and which to adopt from others. And which are only good in certain circumstances but not in others or can be sensibly done ie you can drink only in moderation if and only if the effect it has on you is harmless to you or others ie table wine or you dont turn into a yob or get additced. Or say gambling... pub poker yes, money high stakes poker that likely to be addictive or get dangerous no. Likewise why not look at cultures deemed bad and working out are they really. ie heavey metal clubs despite the horror imagry are very safe and friendly and teach good values in looking after others and not abusing strenght, likewise witches are mostly hippy like. Yest mush of islam and chrisitinaity despite saying its good causes a lot of hurt and harm and is unjust ******************************************* quote We need to respect all that stuff for the sake of getting along with everyone else around and not to hurt/offend people who believe in em. Why if its hurting others... why not only respect if its nice... Ie thai curry yummy, female genital mutilation evil as hurtful ************************************************ We are humans not animals so we have a culture to adapt to, a religion to follow and a tradition to uphold our morals. Simple rite? NO , NOT WHEN THOSE MORALS LOGICALLY ARE WRONG AS CAUSING THE HURT. SAY WHAT IT' ITS DEATH BY TORTURE FOR FALLING IN LOVE, OR THAT GIRLS OR GUYS MUST BE SUBMISSIVE TO THE OTHER SEX? WHERES THE MORALITY IN THAT? WHY ADHERE TO THAT? 12 god quote When you come to my country and disrespect our religious believes , our culture and our tradition you will be nothing but a bigot bully enquote how about reading the question... its saying that obeying said traditions or respecting bullying cultures makes you a conspiracy to bully.,.. Have a look at your culture. I have a look at mine. Bothstop any hurtful practices and attack hurthul bullying practices in their own and other cultures. Is that not better. Plus was ware of the pagoda and earthquakes but thats in line with the poitn... Its kept as makes sense and aint bullying, hurtful or daft. Whilst FGm just hurts, ********************** In case wondering am british... but against fox hunting as cruel, dont eat much tradtional food as unhealthy and bland, not into drinking much as that causes grief, prefer alternative music to mainstream house and garage, etc... ie logic and reason Plus of go abraod eat local food and meet local food ... but not going to join in treating lower castes bad in india
