Mediterranean Travel Destination: a Rich Taste of Datca

Few tourist spots in the world remain unspoiled. Most of them end up losing their natural charm with the presence of too many commercial establishments. Even fewer havens give you a taste of a rich heritage and culture, while offering unforgettable adventures for the palate.

Nestled in between the Aegean and Mediterranean seas is a paradise for hikers, historians, beach lovers and food enthusiasts. This paradise goes by the name Datca. The name of the place means magic air. While living up to its name by offering fresh air to locals and tourists, it fulfills gastronomic desires with its wealth of unique restaurants, exotic dishes and traditional Turkish Food.

Romancing the shore

Don't let the lovely Datca beaches beguile you. There's more to it than water sports and sunbathing. At night, the scenery becomes a romantic one. The lights and sounds from the restaurants and eateries by the shore seem to serenade to the lovely waters of the ocean.

Some establishments have tables set outside with the trees as your canopies. Others offer you a more intimate experience with nature as you can request to have your tables moved closer to the shore. Either way, you get to dine al fresco with bountiful servings fresh from the sea.

If you're not so much of a meal eater, then you can always turn to the bars and cafes by the beach. There are also ice cream parlors and patisseries around so it's easy to satisfy your sweet cravings. If you just can't get enough of the beach calm, then you're always welcome to hang out in the tea houses around.

Savoring the slow

If your appetite calls for a more exotic treat, then we recommend you try the karavilla. This is a local dish in Datca that mainly consists of snails. It is said that this dish is cooked for healing purposes.

Tasting tradition

If you have never tasted traditional Turkish Food, no need to fret. A vacation in Datca offers you authentic servings of the Turkish cuisine. From omelettes and ice creams to pitta and herbal teas, your taste buds won't surely forget Datca.

One must-try is the dish Mennemen. It is basically an omelette with chillis and tomatoes/stock. The filling varies, though, from one restaurant to another. It's best eaten with pitta or bread.

Another traditional dish is keskek, a dish consisting of mince meat and wheat. We also recommend you try the dolma, a dish made of stuffed vine leaves. Any dish is best accompanied with raki, a local beer in Turkey. If you don't fancy downing beer with a Turkish dish then you can always try the Datca herbal teas. These teas are exotic in that they are made of various local herbs.

For dessert, there's nothing like chomping on Datca's almonds, the best ones grown in Turkey. While you can simply get them dry or fresh, more unique treats are almonds preserved in Datca honey and those baked and stuffed in figs.

Another mouthwatering dessert is lokkum. If you've seen the famous film The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe, lokkum is the Turkish delight Edmund wolfed down in one sitting.

If you're a sucker for ice cream, then you'll be glad to know that Turkish ice cream is also famous in Datca. You'll find that Turkish ice cream has a different texture compared with European ice cream. You can choose among unusual flavors like cinnamon and pistachio.

Jeroen Slokker is the owner of a transformed olive oil mill, a bed and breakfast in Turkey named Villa Olivio. He is also responsible for promoting the wondrous paradise of Datca through the information portal, Hidden Datca.

How painfully true is this ?
Lebanon: An experiment that failed miserably. In 1948, Lebanon was created from Syrian land. The country is full of Arabs who pretend to be European due to an inferiority complex. They're easily noticeable when they speak half-french and half-english " Hi, kifak ? ca va ? " In recent years the country did not want the Syrian military in Lebanon, and in return the Israelis bombed the hell out of lebanon in 2006 due to a lack of syrian protection and yet, they blame syria for everything. A country that wants to be everything it is not, believes its European, believes its rich, believes plastic surgery makes you beautiful, but scratch the surface Food is great but attempts to sell it as 'lebanese food' are foolish, it is exactly the same as Syrian food and strongly linked to Greek and Turkish food for that matter. Lebanon is a place full of sectarian hatred, full of political disunion. . Lies, I'm a Lebanese and I know your corruption all too well, media propaganda and schools are spreading ignorance everywhere. Btw the X to Christmas is just an abbreviation, and you know what ? Jesus wasn't even born on Christmas and the bible says nothing about Santas and reindeers, maybe you should take that away too. I know that no country is perfect but there is no excuse for the absolute corruption and ignorance in the lebanese society.
